Are there people jailed for credit card debts in the philippines?

Philippines has no centralized credit bureau in the US so you don%26#039;t have your credit report or credit score to think about

But each credit card provider such as Citibank is very aggressive in collecting credit card debts. I know of several people who get collection letters and phone calls (frequent phone calls) from lawyers and collection agents threatening them with repercussions if they don%26#039;t pay up. There%26#039;s this one even who was threatened to be blacklisted in all call centers and be booted from her job (you know the padrino system in the Philippines where who you know counts a lot)

The ones I know presented the credit card company with a proposal on how to pay off their debts, so they prevented jailtime.

But yes, you can get sued and eventually jailed for credit card debts in the Philippines.

Yes, a friend of mine is doing a life term for that very thing, right there in the Philippines.
