Can a credit card company garnish my husbands wages for a debt that is mine?

a credit card company called me the other day to tell me they were going to take me to court to garnish my wages if I couldn%26#039;t pay for the whole debt right now. I told them that I don%26#039;t have a job (I%26#039;m a stay at home mom), and there was no way for me to get that kind of money. my husband is in the military and only makes enough for us to get by, and now they say that there are going to garnish his wages, if they can%26#039;t garnish mine. This debt was before we were married, and he isn%26#039;t on any of the paperwork. can they really do this?

It depends on the state you live in. But usually not. They are proabley trying to scare you into paying. But if they don%26#039;t get a judgement against you, this can stay on your credit for 20 years, and will proabley have to be paid off if your wish to purchase a home. You may want to try and work a settlemant out with them or even consider filing Bankruptcy, But I would only do that that if it was a hugh amount, like over $20,000. Settling is usually the best. And remebmer get everything in writing from them, before you oay anything. Good Luck
