How to get the credit card company to raise my credit limit?

I just got my credit card back after having my account closed for the past 2 years. I paid off all my credit card debt and they reopened my account. They gave me an $1100 credit limit.

I need to buy a computer for work/school this week thats going to cost me $1300. It will all be payed off in the next two months, but unfortunatly I need it now. Is there a way to get the credit card company to raise my limit by a couple hundred dollars? Has anyone had success doing this?

Call and explain...that%26#039;s not much...but its how credit card debt can get out of hand...

Call the 800 number on the back of the card.

It%26#039;s based on your credit rating. Call their customer service and request a higher limit.

Another option is to split tender the purchase. Pay some cash for the laptop, and then 1100 onto the card.

Get a cheaper computer. You can have a nice computer for half of the cost...one that you can actually AFFORD!

I want a mercedes but unfortunately I had to settle for a toyota...life is about choices...

The 1100 computer will be obsolete within a years time

Tell them you%26#039;ve got a competing offer, and you%26#039;d like to stay with their company, but gee, this company has a limit of $1500.

Oh, and I agree with the guy that said get a cheaper computer. Take the rest of that money and put it towards keeping yourself out of serious debt.

I am surprised they reopened your account and extended you that much credit.

Find a cheaper computer or wait till you save up some money. The last thing you need to do is max out a credit card that you just got reopened.

There is NO positive side to credit card use. You will spend more if you use credit cards. Even by paying the bills on time, you are not beating the system! But most families don%26#039;t pay on time. The average family today carries $8,000 in credit card debt according to the American Bankers%26#039; Association.

Now let%26#039;s talk about the rebates. If you were using a credit card at 5%, you would have had to have spent $80,000 to get $4,000 rebates on new cars that lost $6,000 of value when you drove them off the lot. That is not a good deal!

Cash vs. Credit Cards

When you pay cash, you can %26quot;feel%26quot; the money leaving you. This is not true with credit cards. Flipping a credit card up on a counter registers nothing emotionally. If you use credit cards instead of cash you will spend 12-18% more. This is money you could have saved.

There are only a few ways to do this, and there are no guarantees.

SHORT TERM

Ask if you can prepay your balance into a negative situation so that your net limit is higher. For example pay $300 so your balance is negative $300 and you buy the laptop and your balance goes to $1000.

From the cash register where you are making the purchase, try and run the card, get denied, and then call in to speak to a manager and explain your situation!

MID TERM

Wait every six months and use a credit building strategy such as chargning and paying several times per month so that you run more than your limit through your account. DO NOT DO THIS WITHIN TWO MONTHS OF YOUR PURCHASE!

LONG TERM

Use your card normally, up your score with other accounts, and hope the company bumps you every six months when they do an automatic soft check.
